PROBLEM: On Honda ATV’s, the recoil starter is located towards the rear of the engine, leaving the starter housing prone to filling with water and mud from even modest water crossings. The muddy water remains in the recoil starter because outlets are plugged with mud. Science will tell you that water causes more corrosion than any other element on earth. So naturally, with the mud and water trapped, the Honda recoil starter rusts and corrodes and is then disabled. In time, this water and mud will make its way into lower parts of the engine through the oil seal, causing severe damage to the performance of the ATV, ultimately leading to a ruined engine and a LARGE MECHANIC BILL!
SOLUTION: There is a simple and inexpensive way to provide a permanent solution to this leaky situation. The New High Lifter Pull Starter Leak Shield…long name, but to the point! For under $60, install the Pull Starter Leak Shield on your Honda ATV and shield your engine from the expensive lower-end damage. The Pull Starter Leak Shield comes with simple installation instructions and bolts on easily after removing the recoil starter. The kit contains a Lexan shield (stronger than plexi glass), one gasket, one recoil adapter and mounting hardware.
